A Year Of Gratitude

It’s been a year and a half since Mike and I got married and I finally ordered our wedding photo album!

It was a lovely process to go through all the photos and choose which ones we wanted to include. It took ages and my hand even started to cramp up but I was enjoying it so much I barely noticed 🙂

We had a roller coaster ride in our first year because Mike was rushed to Dublin for a surprise emergency heart surgery just 5 months after the wedding. What a shock!

The one thing that kept me going was gratitude.

Mike and I met in 2008 and though we didn’t stay together back then, we reconnected almost 10 years later and fell back in love again. It sounds very romantic but it felt like a long 10 years! How grateful I was that he found me again.

But that 10 years was so important for me too. I made the most of my time doing lots of personal development including mantra meditation which brought me into a new circle of friends and helped me to feel more grounded.

Being grounded was vital for me while Mike was in his surgery. He had arrived in the emergency room around 9pm and went straight into a 7 hour surgery. I waited until 4am to hear how he  was doing. It was hard, I won’t lie. I had already contacted friends and family to request their prayers but that time in the ICU waiting room was tough.

So, I had my own little chat with God. I thanked him for the times Mike and I had together already and I handed the result over. Whatever happened next… I would accept it.

Thankfully Mike did really well!!! He was able to communicate with thumbs up the following day!

It took baby steps of progress in the hospital that first two weeks and lots of TLC at home before he started to feel more normal again. I’m happy to say Mike is in a great place now. His heart has a new valve and tube and it’s healed beautifully. Now, I feel grateful every time I notice his heart ticking – it’s a lot louder these days 🙂
